Soldier On

Soldier On_ To persevere, despite setbacks and defeats. Soldiers are expected to fight on, even when they suffer defeats. 'The government is expected to soldier on until the end of its term, although it has lost its majority in the house, and popular support in the country.'

Featuring the idiom itself is website dedicated to helping wounded soldiers, and the illustration sums it up pretty well below. Helping a conrad in times of need which is what this card theme is all about. I however would like to stay away from the human figure here though as the detail may bell be lost when digitalised.

The Soldier on the Position is again a figure, but one that is so subtly painted and comes across in simple style.

Paraguayan Soldier Georgios Kollidas posing for this photo-like illustration summing up the idiom in a stance.

Andrew Birds album art offers a different take on soldier on, as a more perservere angle. The illustration isn't a nice one though is it...

This cartoon vector is worth noting as its artwork that falls under the category of the idiom. Its not a style i wish to go forth with however, and certainly not in that style. But, the colour may prove useful for referencing if i am to use colour...

Vietnam war soldier by Jeremiah Lambert. I think i need to be looking for a more subtle piece of soldier hardware (other than a gun because i dont intend to offend or promote the use of them)...
Incidentally this illustration is spot on though in a style i have made note of.

This is more like it. A subtle illustration that captures the idiom and in this case its a helmet created using Adobe Illustrator.

Also, along the lines of being as subtle as a helmet to sum up the idiom, the use of a medal would work perfectly. It definitely says Soldier On like nothing else. You feel you've earned it,
and Richard Master's design for the medal of honor coin proves just that.

St George's Cross is perfect to illustrate. i shall get right on it in th sketchbooks and see where we get...

Photographs of referencing material used for sketchbook work:

Having collected and finalised my imagery here is the card below in the template i hope to continue with. I have chosen to do this because of the success the last range had with peers and tutors, thus not wanting to deviate too far. Note that the text is in the same fashion as the previous card range, adding continuity:

Here is the front and inside of the envelope developed and adapted from the previous card range project. I have changed the imagery to suit and complement this particular card. I am sticking with this design because it works most effectively and was a success previously.
